Synopsis

A YA feminist mash up inspired by The Lost Boys and The Craft.

It’s 1987 and unfortunately it’s not all Madonna and cherry lip balm. Mayhem Brayburn has always known there was something off about her and her mother, Roxy. Maybe it has to do with Roxy’s constant physical pain, or maybe with Mayhem’s own irresistible pull to water. Either way, she knows they aren’t like everyone else. But when May’s stepfather finally goes too far, Roxy and Mayhem flee to Santa Maria, California, the coastal beach town that holds the answers to all of Mayhem’s questions about who her mother is, her estranged family, and the mysteries of her own self. There she meets the kids who live with her aunt, and it opens the door to the magic that runs through the female lineage in her family, the very magic Mayhem is next in line to inherit and which will change her life for good. But when she gets wrapped up in the search for the man who has been kidnapping girls from the beach, her life takes another dangerous turn and she is forced to face the price of vigilante justice and to ask herself whether revenge is worth the cost.

From the acclaimed author of This Raging Light and But Then I Came Back, Estelle Laure offers a riveting and complex story with magical elements about a a family of women contending with what appears to be an irreversible destiny, taking control and saying when enough is enough.

Discussion Post: Reading Slumps | How This Affects My Reading Habits & My Tips to Overcome This Mental State 📝

⚡️ Hi guys, I hope you’re having an AMAZING day, full of good readings! 💞 Today I bring you another discussion post! (super excited), It’s something that really makes me happy to have started doing this year and I don’t want to start without thanking you for the support you have given me in my previous posts, it means the world to me. So, I love checking out this type of posts around the blogosphere, so I think it could be fun to start writing them myself and share with you so we can all talk about different topics related to the literary world, books & blogging.

Today I want to bring you a super important discussion all about Reading Slumps. Lately, especially in the last 2 months, I’ve seen many of my book blogger friends going through this situation and other community reading members as well, I think it probably has a little to do with everything that’s happening in the world right now, but I also think that it’s a mental state that’s quite normal to come at these times when we are in the middle of the year and you know, things begin to come to us, all the stress and worries finally reach us and suddenly we’re full into this slumpy mood, where it can be difficult to get out of. So I thought it was a good idea to talk a little bit about it, since I think that sharing our experiences can be a very healthy way to begin to heal and finally come out of this state, so besides telling you a little about my personal experiences, I’ve also want to share with you my top tips that have helped me in the past to overcome reading slumps and do a little reflection on how my ways of dealing with it has changed over time. I sincerely hope that this post can be of help to you right now & that you can come back to it at any time where you’re feeling down.❤️

If you want to check more of my discussion posts, here they are: The first is all about Book Reviews, the second is all about The Meaning of being an International Book Blogger, the third one is all about Rating Systems & last but not least we talk about The Pressure of Blogging.
I LOVE you, THANK YOU SO SO MUCH, for the support 😊, I don’t want to stop saying it, I feel honored to you to be in my life and that you allow me to be in a piece of yours. So without further ado, let’s get started! & I hope you enjoy it ⚡️ Continue reading “Discussion Post: Reading Slumps | How This Affects My Reading Habits & My Tips to Overcome This Mental State 📝”

Book Bloggers Appreciation | June 2020 💻

Book Bloggers Appreciation | June 2020 💻

💫 Hi, my beautiful friends, I hope you’re having the most amazing day. ❤️  This is a blog post series, where every month I’ll highlight a series of blog posts, from around the book blogger community, that I enjoyed reading or that I think are amazing and deserve more love and recognition. With this, I hope to be able to somehow support other book bloggers more, and I also hope you can find new book blogs to follow or content that interests you or help you.  👏🏻
Maybe the look of this post will be simpler to what you usually see on the blog, but I like this idea and it’s honestly with the simple purpose of supporting each other more and we can find new content in a simple and organized way.
I don’t have a certain amount to I’m highlighting per month, they’re just posts I’ve come across with and I think they’re INCREDIBLE, so I want to share them with you all. I used to make a small top 5 with my favorite posts of the month, but I realized that I had to delete many posts to be able to select only 5, and I don’t think it’s fair, there are SO many wonderful posts and everyone deserves the same love and recognition, so that’s why I decided to make this post apart. 😊
I hope you enjoy, like and support this idea. I LOVE YOU 🥰 and let’s start! 💫

TBR Lows & Highs | Last Post | #23 🌙

🌙 Hi, guys! I hope you’re having a wonderful day full of good readings. Today I bring you my last post of the TBR Lows & Highs, where I’ll be finishing cleaning my TBR, OMG, I can’t believe that it has been so long since I started this series of posts, and the truth is that I had a lot of fun. SO thankful to you for being here every week to help me make the most impossible decisions, you’re INCREDIBLE. 🥰  And of course super grateful to DestinyHowling Libraries | 💫, the creator of this wonderful idea, because thanks to her my TBR looks more decent and I’ve been able to establish my priorities. 👏🏻
On the other hand, I also have a mini TBR-Jar with all the choices you have made, the book you’ve decided to save each week has gone to that jar and now I’ll soon be choosing some to read.⚱️
So although it’s a bit nostalgic that it’s my last post, I hope you’ll join me and help me make the last decisions & soon I’ll be coming back with another series and new ideas to share with you every Sunday! I LOVE YOU ❤️

As always, I want to ask you to vote for one of the books in the “LOWS” section and not only I’ll be adding it to my priority list, but I’ll also be adding them to my own TBR Jar. So here we go! 🌙  Continue reading “TBR Lows & Highs | Last Post | #23 🌙”

July TBR | Catching up with my Readings & PopCulture Readathon ❄️

July TBR | Catching up with my Readings & PopCulture Readathon ❄️

❄️ Hi, my beautiful bookish friends! I hope you’re having the most incredible day with the best readings.❤️ Today I bring you a new Monthly TBR, where I share with you my reading plans for the month of July. This month will be the month where I’ll try to catch up on my readings after having a very bad June, thank God it was a pretty short month for me because I was urgent to start with a new month and new energy. 💫 I know I say this every month, you probably think I’m crazy, but I’m excited for this month and I think it will be the month when I finally read a lot and catch up on many readings I’ve been wanting to read since the beginning of the year. 😍

I’ve planned this structure where I’ve chosen books that I’m really excited about, some ARCs and new releases, in this way, I think I’ll be able to defeat the reading slump and stay motivated throughout the month. 👏🏻 In addition to these plans, I’ll be participating in PopCulture Readathon 🤩 , which not only sounds incredible but IS INCREDIBLE. When I found out about it on Twitter, I knew that I had to participate even when I wasn’t reading anything at the time. I LOVE the idea, is inspired by movies from the ’90s! I think it’s brilliant and I love how Whitney, the creator, has organized everything in a way that we all have many options and a wide range of promps and boards: Teen Dream Family Affair” “Thrill Ride & The Adult Table, which I LOVE! I also think that there’s no specific goal, you can do it as you like and how it resonates with you, try to fill the board you choose or you can do it in a bingo-style or as you want, in my case, I’ll try to read as many books as I can of the board that I’ve chosen. 😊  In case you want to know more about the readathon and places to find it, I’ll leave you all the links here above and I’m very happy to see that many of us will be participating or, in my case, trying to participate, so it will be even more fun!

❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ Before starting I want to thank you for being there for me throughout the month of June supporting my work on the blog and to me as a person, I don’t deserve you, you’re wonderful and I’m absolutely proud and happy to be part of the community. I know that lately, our family that we have created here, has been somewhat problematic in general, so I want to let you know that this will always be a safe place for you, as positive as it can be and you’ll always have all the freedom to express yourself as you want to do it. I also want to say that if you’re feeling uncomfortable or un-motivated, please don’t hesitate to stay away for a while if it’s what you need, it’s totally understandable and your mental health comes first. I LOVE YOU & I’m planning a discussion on how to combat reading slump for this month if you’re interested stay around because I know that sadly many of us are going through the same thing, but I know that we going to do it so much better this month, July will be our month of reading! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

I have a huge stack of books planned to share with you below, I’ve decided to choose a book for each promp on the board because I think it’s fun and I just wanted to choose to have a lot of variety and possibilities, even so, I’m aware that I’ll not read all this and it’s ok, I still wanted to try to read as much as I can. 🥰 I’m excited to share it with you, let me know EVERYTHING in the comments & without further ado, LET’S START! ❄️  Continue reading “July TBR | Catching up with my Readings & PopCulture Readathon ❄️”

June Wrap Up | The Reading Slump Month: Unexpected Readings & Graphic Novels ❄️

June Wrap Up | The Reading Slump Month: Unexpected Readings & Graphic Novels ❄️

❄️ Hi guys! I hope you’re having a beautiful day full of good readings.❤️ Today I bring you a new post… my June Wrap Up! where I’ll tell you ALL about my readings of the month. Well, as you can see from the title, this wasn’t my best reading month and I dare to say that I think it was my worst month in terms of everything that has to do with books so far. If you’ve been through a reading slump then you know that it’s very difficult to describe why it’s happening, you just know that you’re trying to read and nothing seems interesting enough, then you think of thousands of things you could do instead of reading, you just don’t have that motivation to continue your reading and honestly, it feels terrible.  😭 I think it feels even worse when you have a blog because I LOVE sharing my new readings with you and if I don’t read, I don’t have anything to talk to you about and I feel super frustrated, but well, it’s what happened to me this month, unfortunately, I felt this way and I accepted it and decided to go with the flow of what was happening to me and not force myself to read. This is just a stage… I know, you know, and I’m feeling better so everything is fine, I don’t want to be dramatic about it here 😅, I just wanted to share it with you and I also came up with the idea of doing a whole post to discuss this topic and give you some tips that have worked for me in the past and also share our experiences, I think it’s always healing to know that it can happen to all of us and that’s fine, it’s natural. 👏🏻

In other news, I had decided to participate in Make Your Myth-Taker readathon, a wonderful readathon that you can learn more about by clicking on the link, and obviously, I failed miserably 😂, but that was obvious to me being in a reading slump, honestly, I didn’t feel as to read anything that was in my TBR, so I’m very sorry that I didn’t succeed, but I hope to participate again at another time and do better! I hope you’ve done amazing if you participated. On the other hand, and although it wasn’t my best reading month, I think I’ve read quality things, so that makes me feel a little better. I also found one of the best books I’ve read this year, if not the best! so obviously that deserves celebration. 🥳

Happy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt GIF

I read a hard-hitting contemporary with a mix of magical realism that blew my mind, I still don’t have the words to express how incredible that book was. I’ve also chosen to read graphic novels because they’re quicker & easier to read, so I thought they were exactly what I needed this month and I really liked them. Apart from that, I was part of a blog tour & I read a very intense short novel that I enjoyed a lot. Last but not least, I read one of the most loved books by the community that involves mythology, and I loved it, I had a great experience which I’ll share with you later.
Thank you SO much for being here and sharing each wrap up with me, it means the world for me, and even more when I had such a rare month and full of emotions. 🥰  So without further ado, let’s get started, I’m excited to share my readings with you and tell you a little about them. ❄️ Continue reading “June Wrap Up | The Reading Slump Month: Unexpected Readings & Graphic Novels ❄️”
