TBR Lows & Highs #4 🌙

🌙 Hi, guys! I hope you’re having a wonderful day full of good readings. Super excited cause this weekly series will be focused on helping me clean my Goodreads shelves and also prioritize some readings and organize myself in general. I LOVE this idea, I know that many of you already know it and do it as well, the creator is the incredible Destiny | Howling Libraries | 💫 whom I love as a human being and I respect a lot as a book blogger ❤️, so it’s really a pleasure to start with this new project especially because it’s created by someone who I admire a lot and that makes me very happy, I also really need help to organize my books, So here we go! 👏🏻

This weekly meme has its rules of course, as you see, but I also wanted to give it my own twist to make it more fun and also fit my needs or what I hope to do with my books and my readings. So I’ve decided that as well as Destiny, I’ll be opening voting every week so that you can participate in the whole process and help me decide which books to prioritize, for this: I’ll ask you to vote for one of the books in the “LOWS” section and not only I’ll be adding it to my priority list, but I’ll also be creating my own TBR Jar with each of your choices!. So, every week the book you choose from my selection will be added to my TBR Jar and then at the end of the month, I’ll choose one of them to read and finally give a real chance to it. I’ll not be removing all my “LOWS”, only some if necessary, maybe one per week or sometimes none, I’ll be super honest about them and I hope you can help me make a decision anything can happen in these posts! LOL 🥰

I hope you like this idea, I think it will be fun, I’ll be cleaning my Goodreads shelves a bit, which is great, but you can also participate in the process and so will have a super interactive experience, so we can all have a little fun ❤️. I hope you enjoy it, thanks for the support always, from the bottom of my heart & LET’S START!  🌙

Rules:

  • Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
  • Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
  • Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
    • ALTERNATIVE OPTION: Find 5+ titles that are at the BOTTOM of your TBR—books you want to read someday, just not right now!
  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

Book Reviews List (5)

Thank you SO much if you voted on the previous week post and thanks to you as well that have let me know your thoughts, it was really helpful to make my decisions ❤️

✔️ I KEEP ON MY TBR | Ink and Bone (The Great Library #1) by Rachel Caine &  Forget Tomorrow (Forget Tomorrow #1) by Pintip Dunn ( I’ve decided to stay this time not with one but with two books since I think they sound really good, I love both promises very much so this time I will follow my instinct. They also stayed in second place with your votes, so I think it’s a good idea at least give them a chance, I’m thinking of trying a chapter and sharing it with you, it will be fun )

❌ LEAVES MY TBR | Before She Ignites (Fallen Isles #1) by Jodi Meadows & Tiny Pretty Things (Tiny Pretty Things #1) by Sona Charaipotra & Dhonielle Clayton ( I’ve completely lost interest in both of these books and although I don’t think they sound bad, I don’t think that right now it’s something that I can enjoy or want to pick up to read and that’s fine, I’m here to cleaning my TBR, right? )

⚱️ TBR JAR | The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon ( We have another clear winner this week and I’m not surprised this time since it’s probably the best-known book on the stack. I’m excited to read it to tell you my thoughts, luckily I’ve read the author before so that gives me a little more confidence )

Book Reviews List (4)

🌙 The Unseen World by Liz Moore | I’ve heard wonders about this book and yet it has been in my TBR for YEARS, which is a shame and it’s obvious that I must decide if I’ll finally be reading it or not. This is the story about a girl who goes into a quest to discover her father’s hidden past, who’s a brilliant man who directs a lab, but when his mind begins to fail, Ada will be discovering things in the virtual world.
It sounds really good, and I think it has a lot of intrigue in it, I’m not sure how the plot will be told, but I think that multiple paths could be considered, although most of the comments about it are very good, I have also heard that it’s heavy and boring, and that worries me, although I must confess that I’m more inclined to the idea of giving it a chance and see how I feel about it. As always let me know your thoughts would be of GREAT help.

🌙 You Know Me Well by Nina LaCour & David Levithan | This is a story that sounds really adorable, it’s about Kate and Mark, who have never been really friends despite having always gone to school together, until one day their paths cross and while each one is living their own first love story, they’ll discover how important they will become for each other. What intrigues me most about this book is the fact that it seems to be a friendship story instead of a loved one, you know? I mean, the characters will obviously have their individual love stories, but the fact that I like friendship and Nina LaCour writes one of my favorite books, so that’s why I have this book in my TBR in the first place. Even so, I’ve heard that the story, in general, is quite “meh” and that has always stopped me from trying, even when it’s quite short. I would like you to leave me in the comments if it’s worth it or should I read something more from the authors individually

🌙 The Girl in 6E (Deanna Madden #1) by A.R. Torre | OMG, this book still sounds SO weird lol. I added it to my TBR because at that time there was a lot of talk about it because it was a different and a bit more daring book, but I never grabbed it because it’s quite polemic, it seems that you love the book or you just hate it. It’s about a woman who I think has been on her apartment for 3 years, not wanting to leave, she appears not to be able to control her thirst for blood, so she hasn’t touched anyone for that period of time, even though she uses the internet to be in communication with other people. There’s something very dark that she hides and she’s not sure she can continue hiding it for longer.
It intrigues me but, at the same time, it makes me doubt, it’s a trilogy and I like that because it’s not very common among thrillers, but I’m not SO SURE because the blurb is quite vague, so I don’t know what I will find. It’s one of those I feel I could enjoy or end up hating it completely

🌙 Hunted by Meagan Spooner | This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, where the father of the main character gets lost in the woods and Yeva, despite her sisters’ protests, goes out to look for him and gets into the territory of a fearsome beast, but she’s ready to hunt it to rescue his father.
There was a time where the retellings were everywhere and I confess that I’ve never been a big fan… if I like how the plot sounds I just read it, but in general, I don’t care if it is a retelling or not, you know? Maybe I make an exception if I really don’t like the original story, but it almost never happens. What happens to me with this one, is that I feel it’s something that has been done so many times that it could suffer from many cliches and although this is not always a problem for me, it can be the fact that this is a story that could be very faithful in romance and focus only on it. Because of this, I’ve decided to have it there waiting to make a decision, the truth is that I LOVE the cover and I’m interested in knowing the author’s style, but I don’t know, I have several doubts and I feel that if I would have to let go of one of this stories, this one would be the least painful.

🌙 This Is Our Story by Ashley Elston | I added this book a long time ago and I didn’t remember why, but now that I read the blurb, I understand that it sounds so cool to me. I haven’t heard the best things, at all and I think that’s why I’ve left it so long without thinking about reading it, but personally, I think it sounds great, it has that “drama in a small town” vibe, that I love so much. The first thing to read when you see the blurb is “Five went in. Four came out.” How can I resist that, right? This book is about 5 boys who are going to hunt near a river but only 4 of them come back. None of the boys want to tell who shot the gun that killed his friend and the evidence says it could be any of them. Kate is an internship at the district attorney’s office and comes across this case, and she begins her invention, but while she begins to approach the truth, the dangers grow.
Let me know in the comments if you think I should give it a chance!

Book Reviews List (5)

🌙 A Dog’s Promise (A Dog’s Purpose #3) by W. Bruce Cameron | This is the third book of one of my favorite trilogies/series that I’ve read in my life, even seems unfair to give them a rating because 5 stars are really not enough for these so pure and perfect books. A Dog’s Purpose is the story of a puppy that when he dies reincarnates in a new body and not understanding why this happens he begins to look for the true meaning of life and why he has come to this world. Meanwhile, we accompany him on many adventures that he lived along each of his doggy lives. I don’t remember crying as much as I have cried with these books. When I finish the second one I remember calling my mom to tell her everything while crying lol, I’m very sensitive when it comes to animals, but even more about dogs because I honestly think that they’re these kind souls that come to our lives to teach us things. I LOVE dogs and also Bailey, the puppy of the story, so I can’t wait to read it, although I have to wait to be ready, because my heart … you know

🌙 Birthday by Meredith Russo | I saw Mel from Mel to the Any talking about this book in one of her videos and OMG, she looked so touched that I was just touched as well and dying to read it to be part of a story that’s so important to the trans community. The book follows Morgan and Eric whose families are united because they share birthdays so they get together every year to celebrate it. Meanwhile, we meet the characters: their thoughts, their loves, and their dreams. All that, while Morgan makes the difficult choice to live as her true self.
It will be hard, there are probably tears involved, but I can’t wait, I’m excited to read it to tell you all about it and I hope to enjoy it in order to recommend it as an important and meaningful book within YA

🌙 Little Women by Louisa May Alcott | I don’t have much to say about this one, I know everyone knows what it’s about and honestly, I’m a little scared when it comes to reading classics, but I saw Alex’s REVIEW from Whimsy Pages and I loved it! so if I have to give a chance to some classic and see how I feel, I would prefer it to be this beloved story and then maybe I can watch the movie

🌙 Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel | I showed you that I added the new release of the author, The Glass Hotel, to my TBR in the last post and there I mentioned that I want to read this first, so that’s why I added it to my TBR. I’ve heard wonderful things about this book, it shows that there’s a lot of love in the community for it, so I think it will be incredible, I have great expectations.
The book is about The Traveling Symphony, is a group of actors and musicians who are settling in different places to remind humanity about art. This happens because 20 years ago a flu pandemic fell on the world and changed things as we know them forever.
I love that it’s a post-apocalyptic story, I think it sounds interesting, but I’m also interested in deepening more since I’m not sure how the plot is going to moves, it will be fun and I’m dying to share my thoughts with you

🌙 Seasons of the Storm (Seasons of the Storm #1) by Elle Cosimano | I’ve seen a couple of reviews within the community and OMG, I think it sounds like something I could love, plus: THAT COVER!.
I’m going to put the full blurb here because I really want you to capture the meaning of the story and how it sounds because I don’t think I can explain it better. Expected publication: June 23rd, 2020

“One cold, crisp night, Jack Sommers was faced with a choice—live forever according to the ancient, magical rules of Gaia, or die.
Jack chose to live, and in exchange, he became a Winter—an immortal physical embodiment of the season on Earth. Every year, he must hunt the Season who comes before him. Summer kills Spring. Autumn kills Summer. Winter kills Autumn. And Spring kills Winter.
Jack and Fleur, a Winter and a Spring, fall for each other against all odds. To be together, they’ll have to escape the cycle that’s been forcing them apart. But their creator won’t let them go without a fight.”

🌿 Now is YOUR time to decide! Choose one of the books in my “The LOWS” section and I’ll add it to my TBR JAR to give it a chance at some point.
I’ll be making the decision of which books I’ll be letting go of my TBR completely, cause I really need to clean this out, after knowing your opinion and in the next week I’ll let you know 🌿

  1. I read You Know Me Well last year, not expecting much from it, but it blew me away! It’s definitely more character focused than plot focused, but if that’s your thing, you might love it too 😊 And it’s a pretty quick read!
I also love Station Eleven!! It’s one of those books that sticks with you for a loooong time. I hope you enjoy all of these that you end up picking up!
