Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid

From the acclaimed author of Forever, Interrupted and After I Do comes a breathtaking new novel about a young woman whose fate hinges on the choice she makes after bumping into an old flame; in alternating chapters, we see two possible scenarios unfold—with stunningly different results.

At the age of twenty-nine, Hannah Martin still has no idea what she wants to do with her life. She has lived in six different cities and held countless meaningless jobs since graduating college. On the heels of leaving yet another city, Hannah moves back to her hometown of Los Angeles and takes up residence in her best friend Gabby’s guestroom. Shortly after getting back to town, Hannah goes out to a bar one night with Gabby and meets up with her high school boyfriend, Ethan.

Just after midnight, Gabby asks Hannah if she’s ready to go. A moment later, Ethan offers to give her a ride later if she wants to stay. Hannah hesitates. What happens if she leaves with Gabby? What happens if she leaves with Ethan?

In concurrent storylines, Hannah lives out the effects of each decision. Quickly, these parallel universes develop into radically different stories with large-scale consequences for Hannah, as well as the people around her. As the two alternate realities run their course, Maybe in Another Life raises questions about fate and true love: Is anything meant to be? How much in our life is determined by chance? And perhaps, most compellingly: Is there such a thing as a soul mate?

Hannah believes there is. And, in both worlds, she believes she’s found him.

I don’t go much into it because, to be honest, I haven’t had time to read, but what I’ve do read I liked a lot, it’s easy to read and the plot is entertaining. I love the idea of following two timelines where the main character chose between 2 routes or different decisions. I thought that the time thing and parallel dimensions or whatever you want to call it, would be touched in another way, but even so, it’s not a problem, I like it a lot and I think it will be fun to explore what will happen. Another point that I like is that the main character is close to her 30 and still don’t know what to do with her life, I think it sounds very realistic somehow, when I was 15 years old I thought I would be 25 and already have children, a mansion and my life figure it out lol, but you never stop learning to grow and discover yourself, so I think it’s relatable.
I’m not a big fan of romantic comedies, but I like it to have a second-chance romance, so we’ll see what happens, so far it’s going well  👏🏻

I just finished reading it and enjoyed it very much, but it’s not a book that I’m interested in deepening or giving a full review about, because I think that each one will feel different about according to your thinking and beliefs, and that’s super respectable, but I think it’s something more profound and personal, so I can only say that resonated with me, I knew about the law of attraction and I love the subject, so I enjoyed it a lot  😊

🌻 What do you think you’ll read next? 🌻

🌿 I have no idea what I’ll be reading next because I probably don’t read anything else this month, even so, I have this plan to take December to finish series and finally read those books that I’m dying to read but haven’t yet been able to do so. I want December to be the closing month, you know? I want to close my year of reading by finishing series and/or continuing with them, as well as catching up with that pair of books that I haven’t read yet. It will be fun, I’ll take it as a challenge but at the same time, my plans make me feel super excited, so I’m not stressful at all.
I know that November hasn’t been my best reading month, but it has been so much going on in my life that I don’t feel disappointed with myself in any way, I feel that sometimes things happen that are more important and take all our time and energy and that’s fine, We deserve to live our lives without stressing about having to read 50 books per month, right? I LOVE YOU ❤️ and thanks for so much understanding, especially this month 🌿

  1. The secret of The Secret is that on page 164, it has almost verbatim the “Ye will be Gods” of Genesis 3:4-5. Now, whether you believe in either The Secret or the Bible is irrelevant, I just found it to be an ironic tidbit, especially if you know who is speaking in Genesis 3:4-5.

    Take care! 🙂

  2. It’s definitely fine to have a bit of a slower reading month. Real life issues and your own well-being is always more important. I have put a pause on reading and blogging countless of times in the past few years and I have never regretted it. So take all the time you need to figure things out!

Maybe in Another Life is one of the few Romance books I’m actually interested in. With the different twist on the perspective and it being written by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I’m interested to see how you’ll feel once you finish it. Happy reading! 😊❤

Oh, so far it’s a great book, I’m enjoying it, I’m not a big fan of intense romances plots, but I’m here for the unique concept and I’m loving it 🥰

  3. I LOVE books where characters get to live multiple lives, «Maybe in Another Life» sounds perfect! I need to add it to my TBR.
I’m waiting for Chapter 1 of the Magical Readathon to open so I can see my prompt and choose my next read. So excited! 🙂
