My Boyfriend Picks My TBR😍 [March 2018]

Copia de Copia de SPRINGTIME (2)

Hi babes! I hope you’re having a great day. Today I bring you my TBR of the month of January, where I tell you about the readings that I’ve planned for this month. Today as you can see in the title, I bring you something completely different, I really felt that it would be fun to include my boyfriend in one of my posts, he has always supported me with my blog so I felt it would be something special for me that he be part of at least a little bit of all this
I’ve seen this type of TBR before made by booktubers, but I’ve never seen it in blog form, so I’ll be improvising a little bit lol.
Probably it would have been better to do this in February, for Valentine’s Day and all that, but we didn’t have the time and now that it’s happened I’m glad we didn’t do it before because of my reading slump and all that, so I think this month is perfect to try.

The thing will be like that, he’s not a reader like us, right now he’s just starting reading which makes me a proud mom lol. So I told him to choose from my TBR, the books that he wanted me to read, he can read the blurb, so I think he’ll be guided by it. After choosing, I told him to describe briefly why he chose each book for me, and that’s kind of how it will work lol, I hope you understood

My boyfriend name’s Milo, and he’s one of the most important people in my life, we have been together for 5 years now, he supports me a lot with my projects so makes me so happy that he’s doing this for me, he’s a little shy about it, because I made him write a bit, of course, but also because of what you think about him choices for my TBR, so I really hope you like it, it’s something different and I want it to be fun for all of us. Also I know that you all are the sweetest people on the planet so I’ve already told him that, don’t make me look bad lol.
I love you guys I hope you like it and if so, I have planned other fun things to try in the future. I’M SO EXCITED!, let’s just start now, I see you guys at the end!

I guess you already know, but I want to clarify that he doesn’t speak in English so I have translated everything that he has written

Milo’s TBR

Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman

30809689Introducing an instant classic—master storyteller Neil Gaiman presents a dazzling version of the great Norse myths.

Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people. Gaiman stays true to the myths while vividly reincarnating Odin, the highest of the high, wise, daring, and cunning; Thor, Odin’s son, incredibly strong yet not the wisest of gods; and Loki, the son of giants, a trickster and unsurpassable manipulator. From Gaiman’s deft and witty prose emerges the gods with their fiercely competitive natures, their susceptibility to being duped and to dupe others, and their tendency to let passion ignite their actions, making these long-ago myths breathe pungent life again.

Goodreads

I chose this book because I’m interested in mythology in general, especially in Nordic and Greek mythology. I think it can be very appealing to her because the book is based on the origin of the gods and she loves the themes related to it

The Winner’s Curse (The Winner’s Trilogy #1) by Marie Rutkoski

16069030Winning what you want may cost you everything you love…

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

Goodreads

What caught my attention about this book is the synopsis, especially that it’s a story where war has a major role, I also know that she likes it when the main character is a strong and determined woman, so I know that she’ll enjoy this one

Red Rising (Red Rising Saga #1) by Pierce Brown

15839976“I live for the dream that my children will be born free,” she says. “That they will be what they like. That they will own the land their father gave them.”

“I live for you,” I say sadly.

Eo kisses my cheek. “Then you must live for more.”

Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations.

Yet he spends his life willingly, knowing that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children.

But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity already reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and sprawling parks spread across the planet. Darrow—and Reds like him—are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class.

Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity’s overlords struggle for power. He will be forced to compete for his life and the very future of civilization against the best and most brutal of Society’s ruling class. There, he will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies… even if it means he has to become one of them to do so.

Goodreads

I liked Red Rising because I think it may have a similar plot to Hunger Games or Divergent, movies which I know she really enjoyed, in which we find a different world but not so far from reality. I like to see the struggle for power, it sounds ambitious as in Game of Thrones. I really feel that this book could be the convination of all of them

Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner

30649795What if you could spend one last day with someone you lost?

One day Carver Briggs had it all—three best friends, a supportive family, and a reputation as a talented writer at his high school, Nashville Academy for the Arts.

The next day he lost it all when he sent a simple text to his friend Mars, right before Mars, Eli, and Blake were killed in a car crash.

Now Carver can’t stop blaming himself for the accident, and he’s not the only one. Eli’s twin sister is trying to freeze him out of school with her death-ray stare. And Mars’s father, a powerful judge, is pressuring the district attorney to open a criminal investigation into Carver’s actions.

Luckily, Carver has some unexpected allies: Eli’s girlfriend, the only person to stand by him at school; Dr. Mendez, his new therapist; and Blake’s grandmother, who asks Carver to spend a Goodbye Day with her to share their memories and say a proper goodbye to his friend.

Soon the other families are asking for a Goodbye Day with Carver, but he’s unsure of their motives. Will they all be able to make peace with their losses, or will these Goodbye Days bring Carver one step closer to a complete breakdown or—even worse—prison?

Goodreads

I chose this one because it’s a book that I would undoubtedly read, I think it tells a different and original story. It’s a book that shows how from one moment to another you can lose everything. It’s a strong story I think, sure to mobilize her feelings, and she loves that

Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker

33574211From the bestselling author of All Is Not Forgotten comes a thriller about two missing sisters, a twisted family, and what happens when one girl comes back…

One night three years ago, the Tanner sisters disappeared: fifteen-year-old Cass and seventeen-year-old Emma. Three years later, Cass returns, without her sister Emma. Her story is one of kidnapping and betrayal, of a mysterious island where the two were held. But to forensic psychiatrist Dr. Abby Winter, something doesn’t add up. Looking deep within this dysfunctional family Dr. Winter uncovers a life where boundaries were violated and a narcissistic parent held sway. And where one sister’s return might just be the beginning of the crime.

Goodreads

I’ve chosen this one exclusively because I needed in my TBR selection a story of mystery and murder, in which in addition to the main plot there is something more happening behind. I also chose it because I feel that I have chosen a couple of fantasies and I wanted to have something more real and creepy so that she reads

Hello again, I’m back! LOL.

My personal pick

Restore Me (Shatter Me #4) by Tahereh Mafi

34992929Juliette Ferrars thought she’d won. She took over Sector 45, was named the new Supreme Commander, and now has Warner by her side. But she’s still the girl with the ability to kill with a single touch—and now she’s got the whole world in the palm of her hand. When tragedy hits, who will she become? Will she be able to control the power she wields and use it for good?

    1. Aw thanks! They really sound super interesting, I’m dying to read them all, I really like how different they’re from each other. I’m currently reading Red Rising and it’s a bit heavy, but we’ll see. OMG Restore Me, YES! 💕

  1. Can I just start by saying that your boyfriend has REALLY stellar taste in books? Red Rising is one of my faves, Goodbye Days was such an emotional read and Neil Gaiman is usually a safe bet no matter what. Also, despite me not having read it myself, everyone tells me I MUST pick up the Winners trilogy, so you definitely have a very varied but surely golden TBR ahead of you (in addition to your awesome choice of an added Tahereh Mafi book 😉 I can’t wait to read Restore Me as well). HAVE FUN!

  5. Your boyfriend has AMAZING taste. I LOVE the Winner’s Trilogy and Kester is the definition of a layered and complex character. She stole the show for me. I’ve not read Norse Mythology yet but it’s definitely one I’ve got my eye on.
